Zoran. Ever heard of him? If you haven’t, it’s because he wants to keep it that way. There is little to nothing about him on the internet, his phone number is not listed, and his name only stirs excitement in a select few followers. So it is no surprise that many fashionistas will have no idea what the name Zoran means. Yet, despite being one of the most elusive designers to grace the fashion world, Zoran has developed a cult following.
Born in 1947 in Yugoslavia, Zoran studied architecture at the University of Belgrade before he immigrated to the United States in 1971. By 1976 he completed his first collection consisting of three shirts, a pair of pants and a skirt. His tops were white and the bottoms black. Simple.
This first collection would mark the cornerstone of his style and fashion success. His collections are comprised of a handful of neutral colors (i.e. black, gray, ivory, camel, brown), luxurious and high quality fabrics (i.e. cashmere, silk, wool, linen), but most importantly, his pieces are so unique and simplistic that there is not a single zipper, button or closure of any kind.
His clothing is devoid of any decoration and embellishment, which allows his piece to shine. Zoran's clothing is for women who love ease and comfort, while still valuing luxury. Zoran is the perfect combination of causal elegance. His pieces elevate any outfit and all the wearer the flexibility and comfortability needed to get through the day while still looking effortlessly chic.
It’s no secret that everyone at Union & Fifth is obsessed with Zoran and we simply cannot get enough of him. Regrettably, Zoran is no longer producing collections, but this does not mean that there is not enough Zoran to go around. So, go ahead. Drink the Kool-Aid and join us in our love for Zoran. We promise you won’t regret it.
