It’s Hot, Hot, Hot!
Stay Cool This Summer with These 3 Fresh Fabrics
Get out those wide-brimmed hats and keep the sunscreen handy - it is going to be one long, hot summer! In the heat of the summer, it’s easier to keep your cool when you’ve selected garments that work with your body’s rising temperatures, not against it. Many of us are familiar with the use of cotton, linen, and silk to beat the summer heat. Here are some alternative natural fibers to consider when selecting summer wears.
1. Bamboo - Soft and absorbent, this fabric is amazing for summer especially because its anti-microbial and quick-drying nature. This is a terrific fabric for those of us who tend to sweat a little more then we might enjoy.
2. Tropical Lightweight Wool – YES, WOOL!! The porous weave of the tropical version provides incredible airflow. Additionally, this type of wool tends to be wrinkle-free and quick-drying.
3. Jute - This incredible vegetative fiber is no longer relegated to Burlap sacks. It is strong and breathable, with the added bonus of softness when blended with silk or cotton. This fabric also has the benefit of UV protection, making it a great choice for summer picnics and poolside parties.
Also consider trying natural fiber blends to get the best of both worlds. Chambray, one of this year’s most popular fiber weaves, comes in many blend options including cotton, linen, and silk. Or reach for those old summer standbys - organic jersey cotton and seersucker.
